PACKING
PACKING ADVICE
By organizing the way you pack you can make your move less stressful, as a guide we have laid out below some of the more common ways of organizing your packing. Some you may know of already whilst others may give you more ideas:
• Let us know how many boxes and/or other packaging material you
may require.
• Throw out all unwanted clutter, this will save you from taking
it all to your new house only to be thrown away at a later date. Drop
off re-usable items to Charity shops.
• Defrost your fridge or freezer if it is going into storage, or
if your new home is a significant distance from your current residence.
• Place smaller plants upright in a carton so soil is not spilt.
Avoid watering plants before the move to avoid leaks. Ensure your garden
tools are clean or wrapped up as they will most likely be in the same
vehicle as your furniture.
• Empty drawers under beds . Other drawers can be left packe with
clothing.
• Spread the load of books among several boxes.
• Heavy dishes should be packed in the bottom of a box.
• Mark boxes with the relevant room it belongs to. Also mark heavy
and/or fragile boxes.
• Place screws/nut/bolts from disassembled items into labeled envelopes
in a safe place.
• Remove lamp shades and pack separately from stands.
• Ensure you secure the top and bottom of boxes, we recommend at
least three strips of tape, top and bottom, to at least halfway up/down
the box for extra strength.
• Draw out a rough plan of where you’d like your furniture
placed in your new home.
Breakables
• Plates should be wrapped separately in paper and placed on top
of one another.
• Wrap glasses individually and standing upright as they are easily
crushed when laid on their sides.
• Glassware and china should be packed so it is not loose in the
box. Place a generous amount of paper in the bottom of the box. Wrap each
item separately, filling in spaces with more paper. Place paper between
each layer, finishing with a layer paper on the top.
• Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in towels or blankets and
placed a flattened box with the ends taped.
• All boxes containing breakables should be marked as fragile and
kept separate. Please inform the removal person/s on site on your moving
day.
